feedback from petition

Road Safety

Last summer two local residents raised issues about road safety near Arlan Gwili and the removal of the bus stop when the county put the roundabout in place.

After several site meetings with Nia Grifith MP Officers from the county and the local bus company and residents of Iscoed Road, Gwyn Jones of Iscoed Road drafted a petition which I fully supported, Nia Griffith MP, Joyce Watson AM and Alun Davies all came to Hendy one Saturday morning in September and done a very successfull door knocking exercise to talk to residents of Hendy and to collect signatures for the petition,

As a result of feedback I then formally presented the petition on behalf of Gwyn Jones to the full county council and I also agreed to meet the director for technical services and highways with Nia Griffith MP to discuss comments that were submitted to the county This meeting took place in November in the Llanelli Town Hall. I agreed for the Executive Board to comment on the petition and the comments supporting the petition.

This week the board met to discuss the petition and the comments and are planning to meet us to update us on improvements.

Here are just two examples of improvements that have already been done, 1. A SIGN advising motorists to slow down there was a mini roundabout approaching was hidden behind a lampost, the sign has now been moved and altered and is more visbible and 2. A hedge has been removed which has helped with visibility at the junction

photos below show before work took place.

Above Photo was taken before, showing the poor visibility, whilst below has been taken after discussions about Arlan Gwili roundabout safety.

Below was a warning sign advising there was a rounabout ahead, as you could see the visibility of this sign was clearly blocked by the telegraph, this was an issue highlighted in feedback to the officers.

The county altered the sign changing the post so that visibility of the warning sign is now more prominant and helps slow vehicles down approaching the roundabout.

Recycling Issues

Finally in the above report of the executive board meeting point 3.4 you will notice that the cost of green recycling bags will have come down from £3.50 for ten to £3.50 for 20

The county have been trying to encourage people to recycle by giving away free compost bins and introduced the high price scheme for the bags, many people responded to my other survey and raised concerns about the cost and these concerns were forwarded to the relevant officers, whilst it may not be a decision that people wanted to here ie many wanted a free collection it is a step in the right direction to have this reduction

I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone that helps fill out my surveys as without your comments and views it is sometimes difficult to tell officers well this is what the residents of Hendy are saying, I'm hoping many more of you will participate in the surveys through out 2009
