Hendy's weekly news

Pontarddulais and Hendy Carnival

The local carnival will be 40 years old this year, already there has been lots of organising of the event last month the carnival committee met with Pontarddulais Town Council and Llanedi Community Council. This week the Pontarddulais town council reported back to the carnival committee that they will support the birthday celebrations by organising a concert the Saturday before carnival 21st June at Coedbach with a hog roast afterwards. They are also going to put on a quiz evening at the Institute with a trophy for the winners on the evening of Wed 25th June.

Hendy RFC Quiz team

The team finished the season on a rather disappointing note when they lost to the King Hotel in the Handicap Cup. The team had no complaints in losing to the King Hotel because they were a very sporting and learned side indeed, and Hendy wish their opponents the best of luck for the rest of the tournament. The main squad of players for the Hendy Rugby Club consisted of skipper Neil Lewis, Michael Thomas (Spike), Peter Davies, Gary Bowen and Geraint Owain Price, all deserve the summer recess to rest their brains, before next season, but who knows they might decide to rise to the challenge and test their  knowledge in  the carnival birthday trophy quiz night. Anybody interested in joining the side next season, please do not hesitate to contact any of the mentioned names above or drop me an email and I’ll pass on your info to the team.

Hendy Pool Feasibility Study

Hyder the consultants after consultation with lots of local community groups and organisations like the Wales Scouting Movement who recently met with Assembly Minister Leighton Andrews at the pool. The consultants have also met and consultated with lots of other community groups and local sports clubs and organisations. They’ve also consulted with other lido’s like Broomhill in Ipswich, Cheltenham and Glouster, and Wotton Lido. They are now ready to consult with the wider community and will be holding a two day exhibition in the Urdd Hendy on Thursday 13th and Friday 14th March, there will be three possible projects for the park and pool area on display and this exhibition will be the communities chance help identify a preferred option to take forward to the next stage. This will be your chance to add your comments, good or bad to help make an important decision about the best community project to take forward to a design stage. Please make every effort to attend.
