Hendy News

Public Footpaths
 
There will be a temporary closure of the Heol y Parc to Maesderi footpath for two weeks from Monday 29th April, to allow essential maintenance of the Gas pipelines
 
Hendy Eisteddfod
 
The annual Eisteddfod which is organised by the Hendy aelwyd committee will be held at Hendy Primary school hall on Saturday May 9th. The first competitions will be for local children under 12, followed by the open competitions up to the champion solo and recitation. 
Highlights include the chairing of the bard ceremony and the choral competition.
Come along and enjoy a day at the Eisteddfod.

Carnival Day
 
Preparations are well in hand for the 2009 Pontarddulais & Hendy Carnival. The theme this year is "Countries of the World" and the entertainment will include "The Eagle & Vulture Show". If anyone is interested in having a stall at the carnival, please telephone Celia on 01792 883337 for an application form. Stalls are £15 for charitable/voluntary organisations and £20 for small craft.
Photographic Competition
 
The annual photograph competition for the 2009 Hendy and Pontarddulais carnival is now open, this competition offers cash prizes for the best three photos, your photos must be unmounted in black and white or colour, digital photos are also accepted, the only rules are they must be no larger than A4 and you can only enter a maximum of three, the closing date is 13th June, please send all your entries to Mrs E Evans 18 Alltiago Road, Pontarddulais, Swansea enclosing a Stamped Addressed Envelope
 
MP Surgery
 
Nia Griffith MP will be holding a surgery in Hendy on Friday May 8th between 4.30pm and 5.30pm in the cricket club.
 
Carnival Queen
 
This year the Carnival Committee will be picking the Carnival Queen by entry with a photo, The competition is open to Girls 11 - 16 at Comprehensive School. To enter, please send a photograph, together with your name, address, age and telephone number to. Mrs. E. Evans, 18 Alltiago Rd.Pontarddulais, Swansea, SA4 8HU. The closing date for entries is Friday 15th May, 2009 - Note the winner must be available on carnival day Saturday 27th June, 2009 and must be either resident in the Pontarddulais, Hendy and District or at school in Pontarddulais.
 
Local Surgery
 
Councillor Steve Lloyd-janes will be holding his regular monthly surgery in Arlan Gwili on the last Saturday of the month this Saturday, between 9am and 10am,
 
Exhibition
 
The county council and pool committee will have a display and exhibition, showing the proposed new plans for regeneration of the park on display for a week in the Hendy rugby club, you can go along after 6pm to view these drawings in the club from Wednesday 22nd April until Wednesday 29th April, There will then be a public meeting on the Thursday 30th at 7pm in the Urdd Hall to discuss the future of the park. Officers from the county council will be at the public meeting and The accounts from the pool committee will be available at the public meeting at the Committee's AGM to discuss all the fund raising that has taken place over the last ten years, as the pool committee would like to use these funds to regenerate the park, in partnership with the community council and the county council.  
 
Walking club
 
Pontarddulais Walking Club members would like to thank Mr Alan Richards in leading the trek to Llanybydder and Mynydd Pencarreg. Many thanks also to Mr Brian Lloyd for taking the group to the Brecknock Beacons in the absence of the scheduled walk leader who was absent. Brian took the group to the Caerfannell Valley and visited the scene of the fatal Wellington Bomber wartime crash, that perished one evening in 1942 with its Canadian crew. Lunch was taken on the tour of Gwalciau'r Cwm overlooking the waters of Talybont ar Usk.Mr Illtyd Lloyd will take the group to the hills of Cwmdeuddwr. The starting point of the trek will be Abergwesyn and the highlight of the trek will be the visit to the famous beehive cairn of Drygan fawr.
