Community Police Meetings
The local Community Policing Team and local councillors from Hendy and Llangennech meets every month in Llangennech Community Hall, however because next week is a bank holiday, the team have decided to change the dates from the usual day to the Tuesday, therefore the PACT Team will be meeting with members of the public and community, on Tuesday 5th May between 6pm and 7pm. This meeting is your opportunity to meet the police and councillors to discuss community policing issues.
Local Surgeries
Nia Griffith MP will be holding a joint surgery with Councillor Steve Lloyd-janes on Friday 8th May in the Hendy Cricket Club between 4.30pm and 5.30pm
Annual and Public meeting
Following the display of the park regeneration plans for a week in the rugby club, the exhibition is being moved into the Urdd Hall where officers and the pool committee will be holding a public meeting to discuss comments at its AGM, At this meeting there will also be county council officers who have drawn up the plans to discuss the project and how to take the regeneration forward in partnership with the pool committee the community council and Carmarthenshire County Council.
The public meeting is to take place Thursday 30th April at 7.30pm in the Urdd Hall. People can display the exhibition for half hour from 7pm prior to the meeting
Carnival Queen
This year the comittee will be picking the Carnival Queen by entry with a photo, The competition is open to Girls 11 - 16 at Comprehensive School. To enter, please send a photograph, together with your name, address, age and telephone number to. Mrs. E. Evans, 18 Alltiago Rd.Pontarddulais, Swansea, SA4 8HU. The closing date for entries is Friday 15th May, 2009 - Note the winner must be available on carnival day Saturday 27th June, 2009 and must be either resident in the
Pontarddulais, Hendy and District or at school in Pontarddulais. The winner will receive a prize of £20. Two attendants will receive £10 each. The carnival has become a very busy week with events on every day throughout the full week before the carnival plus lots of the usual competitions that individuals and schools can participate in, over the coming weeks details of all the events for the week will be published.
Hendy Eisteddfod
The annual Eisteddfod which is organised by the Hendy aelwyd committee will be held at Hendy Primary school hall on Saturday May 9th. The first competitions will be for local children under 12, followed by the open competitions up to the champion solo and recitation.
Highlights include the chairing of the bard ceremony and the choral competition.
Come along and enjoy a day at the Eisteddfod.

Carnival Day
Preparations are well in hand for the 2009 Pontarddulais & Hendy Carnival. The theme this year is "Countries of the World" and the entertainment will include "The Eagle & Vulture Show". If anyone is interested in having a stall at the carnival, please telephone Celia on 01792 883337 for an application form. Stalls are £15 for charitable/voluntary organisations and £20 for small craft.
Llanelli District Guide Dogs Association
Llanelli and District Guide Dogs are celebrating their 25th Anniversary this year. They are organising a celebration day in Peoples park Llanelli on 6 June 09. It will be to be a day to remember and they are asking for anyone who would like a stall at this special event to contact them as soon as possible. Stalls start from £10 for a charity organisation with every penny helping the association raise money for this association.
They are also arranging a sponsored walk during the afternoon to raise funds for Guide Dogs and invite you to take part. The walk will follow the path around peoples Park and Old Castle Lake. It will be a walk for all ages and all abilities and you are invited to bring along your own dog although this is optional
If you have a group organisation or would like to know more about the guide dog association they also organise interesting talks.

Photographic Competition
The annual photograph competition for the 2009 Hendy and Pontarddulais carnival is now open, this competition offers cash prizes for the best three photos, your photos must be unmounted in black and white or colour, digital photos are also accepted, the only rules are they must be no larger than A4 and you can only enter a maximum of three, the closing date is 13th June, please send all your entries to Mrs E Evans 18 Alltiago Road, Pontarddulais, Swansea enclosing a Stamped Addressed Envelope
