Past Players Association

Plans for the Hendy Rugby Club ex players association are now well under-way with the first social evening planned for Friday 18th April to be held at the Hendy Rugby club, were you a part of the Hendy Squad and a past player? If so contact the Rugby Club or Gareth Mathews on 01792 883039 for details of events and meetings that the association are arranging. The club would also like any old team photographs to extend their current display; if you have any to lend it would be most appreciated.

Llwynhendy Community Police Team

The Llanedi community council were given the following update from the community policing team. Due to the anti-sociable behaviour it had been agreed with councillors at the monthly Pact Meeting, that Hendy would see an operation to address the anti sociable behaviour and there were two operations conducted over the 4 weekends in March, called Operation Overflow and Operation Plaice, here are the results from these Operations, which targeted underage drinking, anti-social behaviour, burglary, criminal damage and assaults in Hendy. It was a multi agency approach that had included Community Wardens, Carmarthenshire Council Enforcement Officers, and The Head of Parks for Carmarthenshire Council and the Anti-social behaviour co-ordinator. Llanelli Rural Police Team and operational officers have also been assisted by ARV, Dog handlers and officers from Llanelli. As a result 24 Warning letters have been sent to parents via the anti-social behaviour co-ordinator to Pontarddulais and Hendy parents. The letters were sent to parents of the youths who were congregating in Hendy Park, causing anti sociable behaviour. Underage drinkers saw their alcohol being confiscated. The amount of alcohol seized is as follows: 13 litres of Cider and 17 Cans of Larger. A mobile swift camera has been deployed in Iscoed Road in Hendy, outside the rugby club to monitor the Spar Area and the approach road to the Old Age Complex. One home visit was carried out and a number of parents have also been spoken to regarding the warning letters. The level of anti-social behaviour calls for Hendy has decreased over the last fortnight and local shops have commented that the last few weekends have been quiet without much disturbance. Hopefully the operations in Hendy Park have had the desired effect, but high visible patrols will be maintained during the evenings to keep hold of the problem and to make sure the numbers in the park are of a controlled level. Inspector Bailey would like to thank the community council for their valued support over the last few months in what has been a difficult time for the residents and for us as a Neighbourhood Policing Team. We would also like to thank the rugby club for their assistance in the recent operations. We hope that the good relationship that has been built between the police and the community will continue into the future. If residents have concerns or reports about any crime issues, please use the community police boxes, all comments are treated in confidence and we would welcome any intelligence on crime of any nature, these boxes can be found in both of the Post Offices in the Fforest or Hendy, if incidents are not reported and the Police are not told about issues then the team will have difficulty in solving and we need the community support to make Hendy and the Fforest a safer community.

Maes y Deri Footpath

Work has almost been completed on clearing the shrubbery on this footpath, all that remains is grass reseeding, Work on the new cycle path across the park from Heol y Parc to River Terrace is ongoing.

Pontarddulais  Walking Club

Club members of Pontarddulais Walking Club would like to thank Mr Kevin Anderson for leading last weeks trek to the Taff Valley. The members had a lunch stop at St Gwynnos church in the little hamlet of Llanwynno. Members visited the grave of Guto Nyth Bran, who was a legend in welsh folklore history. The group also visited the villages of Ynysybwl and Cilfynydd, and the final stop of the day was at the picturesque park of Ynysyngharad in Pontypridd to visit the memorial of the composers of the Welsh National Anthem namely the James brothers. The group were also blessed by the early spring sunshine

Hendy Pool Committee

There was a pool committee meeting last week, the committee were waiting for the full completed report from the consultants, before any further discussions or decisions could be made, however the committee did have a chance to reflect on the exhibition and feedback received from the people that attended the exhibition.
