traffic issues

I've organised several surgeries and every time i've held one residents have come to complain about the dangerous spar junction.

At the last joint open surgery with the police in March residents were complaining about this issue.

Well today i witnessed it first hand and you had to see it to believe it?

I walked up to the spar today and walked across to Barry's the butchers and was sitting in his shop talking to four local residents about the outcome of yesterdays meeting and what happened was unreal.

There was a gold car parked outside the spar and the lady walked out and sat in her to drive off. She was putting her seat belt on and the 13meter spar artic pulled up. The driver got out and plugged his cables in to operate his tail lift and walked back to the back of his lorry. By the time he had walked to his tail gate the gold car had pulled away. But without a care in the world he carried on unloading his wagon

He then wheeled his stock inside leaving his tail gate down on the floor of the road obstructing the junction

On coming out the driver would have seen the empty space infront of his lorry but he just carried on oblivious to the fact and went back into his trailer to fetch another cage

The residents that were there stated that this driver does it on a regular basis, he pulls up and unloads where ever he stops. They reckoned the police have been informed on numerous occassions and this just highlights what they were telling us in the police surgery that they had been to?

You had to witness it to believe it, if the driver had waited 15 seconds he would have been able to have pulled forward and not caused any obstruction at all.

Hendy News

here's my weekly column

Street meeting

Ten residents met with local councillors and two county council officers on Wednesday to discuss traffic issues on Iscoed and Bryngwili Road on Wednesday. The outcome of the issues were that Mr Mcenvoy the Highways safety officer was going to consult with the local traders about the proposed changes in parking restrictions outside their shops, currently with Hendy being on the m4 there are lots of long term park and ride commuters leaving their vehicles, in Hendy and car sharing by travelling to work, these cars prevent passing trade from being able to park outside the local shops.

Local bus stops

Mr Mcenvoy also asked Nia Griffith’s office manager to write to the local bus companies to arrange another site meeting so that bus locations and signs can be discussed and agreed with residents and the county council highways/street signage department.

Harleyford Road

There have been large boulders placed around the car park area of the local football club at the bottom of this road. This has been causing residents concerns as delivery lorry’s and the dustbin collection vehicles are unable to turn around and have to reverse out onto the main road when there are lots of cars parked on the street. Nia’s office manager was asked by Mr Mcenvoy, to write to the relevant departments to investigate a possible solution.

Lorries travelling through the village

Residents living at the far end of Iscoed Road produced photographs of lorries trying to pass each other and parked cars, as there are currently high volumes of lorries travelling off the m4 junction to get to Pontarddulais, these lorries don’t travel off junction 47 they all travel to junction 48, this is because Swansea City council have put weight limits on the bridges in Pontlliw, Mr Mcenvoy asked that Nia’s Office manager writes to the relevant department in the county council to ask that, the safety and strength of the bridges in Hendy be checked and monitored.

Sat navigation systems

Mr Mcenvoy then visited the site of Heol y Felin, as Sat Navigational equipment are sending vehicles down a no through country lane and vehicles have been getting stuck near the River Gwili’s old ford on this lane. He promised that new signage had already been sanctioned and Mr Mcenvoy promised the residents that he would investigate why, the new no through road signs hadn’t been installed yet?
