Keen archaeologist Kylie Hearne is hoping to unearth a crown next Friday when she competes in the Wales final of Miss Earth UK.The 21-year-old, who lists Greek and Roman archaeology among her hobbies, is up against the current Miss Wales in the event, which will be held at Leamington Spa.

The eventual winner of the Miss Earth UK will compete against Miss Earths everywhere, in the world finals in September.

Kylie, from Hendy, has got her hands dirty recently helping out with an archaeological dig near Pontarddulais after relics were revealed by workers laying a National Grid gas pipeline.

She has also got actively involved in a campaign to save the Hendy outdoor swimming pool.

"Last year me and a friend were disgusted by the state of the pool and park surrounding it," she said.

Kylie is about to start the second year of a classics degree at Swansea University.

A love of the past runs in Kylie's family. Her late grandfather, Ivor Griffths, was a well-known local historian.

Her late grandmother, Barbara King, was a former carnival queen.

If you want to vote for Kylie in Miss Earth UK text MissEW03 to 84205.
