swansea post code row

the other week a resident came to our surgery about the swansea post code which costs Hendy residents more money, the western mail has done some research and spoken to the post office, about their system of post codes and Hendy is not alone in this issue

the western mail reported other towns and villages with similar difficulties

POOL BETTER OFF OPEN

09:00 - 19 July 2007

Surely vandalism at Hendy pool would be likely to decrease if the lido there was repaired by the council and returned to the local community.I have spent the past five years campaigning for Broomhill Pool in Ipswich (a 1938 lido) and, unsurprisingly, vandalism has increased during the time the pool has been shut.

When it was open, children could use their energies in a positive way, by spending all day there sometimes, jumping off the top board, buying a few chips from the cafe, and so on. The website is http://www.savebroomhillpool.org/ if people would like to see photos of how the pool used to look.

There is also a four-minute film on YouTube called The Pool, showing how the kids used to enjoy it.

I hope Carmarthenshire Council will review its policy towards outdoor pools and make Hendy Lido a local attraction once more.

HENDY NEWS

heres my weekly column you will notice under the Hendy pool section that we will be busy next week, the current situation on the process is this, back in December the county council representatives offered the pool committee the pool and park area which would include the tennis courts a chance to lease the area off them for a pound. The committee was also advised by the county to approach the community council to ask them to consider forming a partnership on the lease.

The community council never said no, but stated they may consider it, subject to a feasibility study and business plan being completed, one of these needed to be done to enable the project managers to apply for any grant,

The committee with the help of the surveyor employed by the community council drew up a brief  which i added to my blog

http://grasscarper.bravejournal.com/archive/05/11/2007we sent off to five companies and we had four replies, we met two weeks ago and picked two as a short list and then decided to vote on which company to interview, the number one choice is now coming to discuss their tender, we have found a grant source which we have applied to and if we are successfully a large % of the cost will be met by the grant, we are waiting for a response from the grant before any work is started

below is next weeks column

The school would like to thank the mayor of Pontarddulais Gail Bateman who attended and won a cash prize which she donated back to the school. The school rugby team have seen a bit of success lately, the Scarlets organised a schools competition which saw the games played down the beach with Hendy winning the Carmarthenshire School’s Beach title.

Pontarddulais Walking Club

Members would like to thank Mr Keith Hopkins for leading last weeks walk. For a change the weather held fine and the group stayed dry during the trek. The group enjoyed the splendid scenery of the Pembrokeshire Coast and the walk entailed a circular trek around St David’s. The fair weather walkers were again conspicuous by their absence. It seems that a few of them are checking on the weather forecast for the day before their travels. The group will be heading shortly for a weekend trek in the county of Devon.
