swansea post codes

I had an email the other week it read

QUOTE

"

Can you bring this up in the next council meeting?
It is about our postcode (SA4).
As you know we live in Carmarthenshire and I think we get penalised by having such a low postcode. There are places in Swansea with a higher post code than ours

"

The same resident also turned up at our surgery, held with Nia Griffith MP last week to further discuss the issue. This is not a new issue because it did make the bbc news last year. Web news and video link here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/south_west/5030872.stm

video of news here

I emailed our clerk to the council, so that he would be aware i would be raising the issue, and i had a very similar response to the news report above.

QUOTE

Thanks for the information.

However, this problem was raised a few years ago and taken up with the Royal Mail.  The response was that postcodes were allocated for sound operational reasons and intended for the purpose of the efficient delivery of mail only.  The fact that postcodes were utilised for different purposes by other organizations, such as insurance companies, was beyond their control.

To remove the problem, it would be necessary to prevail upon the insurance industry to change its method of setting insurance premiums

I hope that this will be of assistance.

I was now wondering, because I've been told today it was one of the debates in the local club over the weekend, therefore i would love to hear peoples views on the subject.

Do you think its the responsibility of the post office to get their instructions correct or should the insurance companies review their procedures on calculations

please leave a comments to this blogg or email me at slloydjanes@aol.com i look forward to your comments.

Steve
