Annual Hog Roast

 

The annual Pig Roast and entertainment will be held in a marquee in the Pontarddulais show ground on Friday 24th August at 7.30pm, Tickets will cost £7.50 with all the proceeds in aid of the Leukaemia Fund Wales, the special guest and compere for the evening will be Swansea Sounds Kevin Jones, there will be a licensed bar available, the event is being organised by Gorseinons Barclays bank manager Kevin Logg, for further details and tickets ring 01792 882334 or 883580

 

 Pontarddulais walking club

 

Members of Pontarddulais Walking Club would like to thank Mr Gary Richards for leading last weeks trek in the Gwent valleys of the Ebbw and Carn. Highlight of the walk was a visit to the Celtic Silurian Hill Fort of Twmbarlwm. The views witnessed from the summit of Twmbarlwm was nothing short of stunning. The group then had a lunch break on Mynydd Maen overlooking the Gwent town of Cwmbran. The club were grateful for being blessed with some hot and sunny August weather. On the Bank Holiday weekend of August, the walking club are to do the Three Peaks challenge of Abergavenny. This walk is rated as strenuous and only for the intrepid few, and will be led by Ann Chalk.

 

Interested in learning Welsh

 

The university of Wales is starting welsh classes in September, there will be twelve locations throughout Carmarthen where courses will be run, each venue will hold classes two evenings a week, Hendy school will be holding a course, which will take thirty weeks to complete, the emphasis will be on conversational Welsh and this course will give the ideal momentum for learning a new language, the lessons are held during school term times. Hendy Pool

 

The executive board for the county council awarded Hendy pool a grant of £9,500 the press release by the county can be found on their web site or at http://tinyurl.com/2tj7hs The pool committee having secured funding are now meeting at 7pm on Wednesday August 22nd in Arlan Gwili, with representatives from the county and the consultants to agree a start date for the feasibility study.

 

Keep Fit

 

Wanted to keep fit with some fun and learn self defence at the same time then why not visit the Shiru Karate Club in the Institute St Teilo Street Pontarddulais, the club conducts professional tuition with qualified insured instructors of traditional Wado Ryu Karate, class times are Tuesday Evenings 5.30pm till 7.00pm and Saturdays 10am till 12pm
