Community Police and the Community Council

This week the local councillors and the local police team have been busy with several meetings together in Hendy and Pontarddulais about various different issues. They met local residents and a county officer outside Barries the local butcher and Hendy Post Office to discus parking issues, there will be changes to parking conditions at both locations on the grounds of safety.

B.O.B.B

At another meting earlier in the week, the Police safety team introduced BOBB, BEHAVE OR BE BANNED, to local licensed premise, there were twenty three public houses involved in the scheme from Llwynhendy, to the Bryn, Llangennech and Hendy. There are 7 landlords in the Hendy and Fforest Group signed up to the initiative, If anybody is banned from one pub they will be banned from all, not only will the landlords be able to choose which trouble makers to ban from their group, but if police arrest anyone for anti sociable behaviour at a pub or club, photos will be provided to all 23 licensed premises by the police, advising them of the incident so that these people can be banned.

Joint PACT meeting

Pontarddulais Town councillors and six members of Llanedi community council turned up at another packed Pontarddulais Rugby Club, Police meeting, along with two Members of parliament from both counties, there were some twenty representatives from both police forces including many youth organisations coordinators. The Chief Inspectors from both Hendy and Pontarddulais addressed the forum with statistics and action plans agreed from the last meeting.  They stated that when patrol cars from both counties are patrolling the two villages in the evenings in future, they will now no longer stop at the bridge and turn around they will cross the boundary and work together, as they understand the small core of yobs causing the anti sociable behaviour, travel between both villages ignoring the boundaries. The Hendy Community Police Team also stated they now have community boxes in both the Hendy and Fforest Post Offices, if any residents want to write comments or give any information about any crimes or anti sociable groups, residents can put their comments into the boxes (if they didn’t want to ring) for the police to follow up, these boxes will be emptied daily.

Hendy Pool

Two representatives from the county council attended a meeting with the consultants and the Hendy Pool Committee and work has now commenced on the study, there was also a representative from the Head Quarters of the Wales Scouting Movement and Amman Valley Enterprises at the meeting. The consultants will be conducting a study and will be consulting with some youth groups to look at what are the best feasible options to put in the Hendy Park to help engage the youth. At the Police meeting later in the week there were also lots of discussions about facilities for the youth of both villages. After the Hendy Pool feasibility study was mentioned, three youth coordinators from three different organisations, at the police meeting approached us and stated they would like to engage the consultants with input from the youth that attend their schemes.

Hendy Park

Work has almost been completed with the installation of new park equipment the Llanedi Community Council bought a state of the art youth shelter, which will be the last piece of equipment to be installed.
