Welcome to my online diary, enjoy your stay!
In November 2005 whilst home recovering from an operation I decided to try and design a web page for White Springs Fisheries in Pontarddulais I added an info page on the fishery website page, but as I got more and more involved in community projects, I decided to start this blog in order to keep my community activities and involvement seperate to the fishing. You can email me with comments at slloydjanes@aol.com

Quiz nights
The new season has approached for the quiz league, and Hendy the RFC Quiz team will be looking for a new skipper this coming season because Mr David Halsall is taking a sabbatical, due to family health problems. The side will also be looking for new members this coming season due to some working shift patterns and they need to be able to field a full team every week. Anyone who is interested in joining the quiz team please contact the rugby club. Or email me and I will pass your details on.
Policing update
Hendy and Pontarddulais is continuing with a zero tolerance policing and now both forces are sharing more info, at a meeting held by Llwynhendy policing team last week in which five Hendy Councillors attended along with, the Pontarddulais police team, who were present to share ideas, There was just one example of this intelligence sharing given, a teenager of legal age has been identified attempting to buy alcohol for minors, The Hendy Police have spoken to the shops and the individual, previously there would have been very little stopping him from walking into Pontarddulais to continue this activity, however Pontarddulais force are now aware of this suspects identity and will be monitoring the situation in the Bont. There were social workers and youth working coordinators, at the same meeting and the role of these workers about how to engage the small minority of youngsters to help address the situation was addressed with some action plans put in place, one is that a youth bus will be visiting in October to help consult with the youngsters to find out their views on the villages. Both Police inspectors have pledged to continue sending representatives to the other forces meetings to expand and share more info on crime and anti sociable activities.
MP Surgery
Nia Griffith has organised a joint surgery with the community police to be held at the Hendy Cricket Club on Tuesday 2nd 0ctober at 5pm
Llanedi Community Council
At the local Llanedi community council, it was agreed to install a seat near the bus stop of Tal y Clun, so walkers and local residents can sit and admire the view of the estuary, They also agreed to consult with the county council on a no ball playing sign in a car park up by Heol Morlais, the ball bouncing of the walls and tarmac echoes and several cars in the car park have been dented, when the ball has been kicked against them. Recently Tycroes has suffered from anti sociable behaviour, with sixteen windows being vandalised in a church. The community council has mobile brackets for mobile surveillance to be installed but the local policing teams don’t have the resources to place cameras at the sites, the community council decided to investigate the costs of a mobile camera, to stay in the Hendy and Tycroes area . Once a cost has been received the council would make a decision.
Carnival Committee
There was a meeting last Thursday, the committee was upset about the incident that appeared in the local press last week where a BB ball hit a young baby in the eye, the press reported that the gun was purchased at the carnival, this was wrong it was an error as the event was the local Pontarddulais show, the committee decided to write to the reporter concerned to get a clarification on the incident. The carnival will be celebrating its 40th year next week and the theme is “FOURTY YEARS AGO” They are trying to find an artist or show that will be entertaining for families and promote a sixties theme. Mike Thomas of Hendy is coordinating and reviving an old trophy event that hasn’t been used in a few year’s, he is in discussion with several schools and youth organisations from Llangennech to Pontlliw to organise an under 12’s football tournament in the run up to the carnival.
Pontarddulais Walking club
It was back to reality this week for the ramblers of Pontarddulais with a leisurely stroll along the Gower peninsula. Compared to the previous weeks 20 mile walk doing the Three Peaks Challenge, of Abergavenny, this walk was a dawdle. During last weeks trek in the Gower the group visited the neolithic chamber of Arthur's Stone on Cefn Bryn, and had lunch at the picturesque
The Daniel Price Memorial.
Diane, Gareth and Family would like to thank players from both Llangennech and Hendy and also to all the sponsors and friends of the event, which helped make this 6th annual event in memory of Daniel such a special day, this year it raised over £1,500 towards the local mental health ward.
