Welcome to my online diary, enjoy your stay!
In November 2005 whilst home recovering from an operation I decided to try and design a web page for White Springs Fisheries in Pontarddulais I soon started adding info on the fishery website page of my community activities, but as I got more and more involved in community projects, I decided to start this blog in order to keep my community activities and involvement seperate to the fishing. I must start with "All I can say is I was glad I wasn't driving Tuesday gone as it was a long day",
I had just finished a ten hour nightshift on Monday night, but had a meeting arranaged with several officers of the Carmarthenshire County Council, to go on a fact finding mission.
When it was agreed and planned I didn't realise how long it would take ........... I met officers in Hendy Park at 9.30am and they dropped me home at 4.45pm and by this time I was well and truly ready for bed having been up and awake for more than 24hours,
Now that I've had my whinge and had plenty of chance to catch up on my beauty sleep, I must say the day was very interesting and it kept my attention all day keeping me wide awake all day.
As stated we started the meeting at 9.30am in Hendy Park there was,
The Executive Board Member for lesuire and regeneration Clive Scourfield,
The Deputy Leader of the county council Executive Member Kevin Madge,
Ian Llewellyn who had arranged the event who is an admin support officer for the Chief Executive Mark James,
Then we had Richard Stradling an officer he's the Business Project Manager for the parks and leisure department and kindly drove the seven seater people carrier all day,
We also had Wanda Smith one of the senior external fund grant managers for the county council who will be working with the pool committee to apply for grants,
And then finally there was Huw Jones the surveyor employed by Llanedi Community Council and myself,
We first met two of the local commuity police team Jane and Steve.
After a short discussion in the park the seven of us left the police behind to travell to Caerphilly, We stopped for coffee in one of the services, and as it was the 11th of the 11th at 11oclock, we all stood in the coffee shop for a two minute mark of respect before travelling on to our destination.
First stop was really interesting, it was a little village called Senghenydd which is famoulsly known for the 1913 Colliery Disaster, however more recently it became famous because it won the peoples millions an ITV sponsored lottery program, which asked members of the puplic to pick a community project, after the public voting the project choosen would win the lottery money.
The community of Senghenydd had an outdoor paddling pool that the county were getting rid of and the community leased the park and applied for funding to place a splash park in.

As the above shows it looked impressive even for a November's cold day. Anyway as stated it hasn't been put to test yet as it is still under construction, we were led to believe if further funding was made available they are going to install a dragon's head creature in the park, this park is currently being installed by SUN SAFE UK http://www.sunsafe.co.uk
After about half an hour on site we were treated to a total suprise, the same community group took us back to their community hall building for tea and home made cake and biscuits and a private showing of their museum
Which has also recently won lottery funding, as i had stated this was the village of Senghenydd which saw the 1913 mining disaster

Their newley refurbished mining disaster exhibition was outstanding and a credit to the organisation and the village.
