feasibilty study of hendy pool

the last three days Vernon Hicks and myself have been busy scanning in copies of the feasibilty studies and printing them out for members of the pool committee to study and as each quotation is some 30 pages long we have both put hours of work into it we were down his office printing and drinking larger till gone 10pm one night this week

i've also typed up and printed some 30 letters and delivered by hand to every member who i know the following letter

20th June 2007

Dear Member of the Pool Committee,

During the recent AGM, I was elected as the new Secretary for the coming year and was handed all the minutes and correspondence etc. I write to you as I am aware, that you have shown some interest in the past by attending previous meetings.

The committee’s monthly meetings, now has a regular attendance of approximately 10 people per month and we decided in January, that the village, should not give up the fight to save the pool, so we decided to commission a feasibility study tender. This is because contrary to the county councils statements there is no funding available, we have found and spoken to and met some fund managers on site, and there are grants out there that Hendy is eligible for.

The wren fund is one example they have a £250,000 grant available for community projects, their web site is www.wren.org.uk. Others grant funds, include the Sports Council of Wales, the Heritage Lottery, and also www.biffaward.org and http://www.onyxenvtrust.org/what/

There could be other funds that we could apply for but these are ones that have been spoken too by various committee members. Every fund manager from the grant funding organisation has advised, “As part of their criteria to apply for their grants, they needed to know, have we completed an up to date business plan and feasibility study?”

This is why the committee has put a tender request out to consultants to tender for the work, as without this we can not apply for any grants.

Once the annual accounts for 2006 has been fully audited and returned from the auditor signed off, the committee will be applying for a grant, to help fund the cost of the study. We have already found grant sources that offer funding for studies and have invited us to apply for funding.

On a positive side Cheltenham and Glouster have a lido that were in very similar circumstances to Hendy, in that the county council would not support, They formed a charitable company accepted a lease of the pool and park areas and found funding, winning a lottery grant and a landfill tax grant; (I’ve just identified three land tax funds that Hendy could apply for web addresses above). The web site for the lido is showing the funding and restoration project is http://mpp.sandfordparkslido.org.uk/funding.htm.  Members of Hendy have visited this Lido and spoken to their management team for advice.

Together a strong well attended committee will be able to continue to fight to save the pool, which is why I am writing to yourselves to ask that you attend the next meeting, as we will be studying the three tender quotes to decide which company to choose do the work.

Finally find attached the agenda for the meeting and please note it has been moved on by one week. The date is Tuesday 10th July 2007 in the Arlan Gwili at 7pm.

Please note it was agreed that the members present at the last meeting should have copies of the feasibility studies, with this letter to study. These members were Lee Owens, Margret Thomas, Mike Thomas, Cllr Buddeg Thomas, Cllr WIB James, Cllr Vernon Hicks, and the chairman Calfyn Evans. If you would like to attend the next meeting and want to view the tender quotes, then please contact myself or any of these committee members.

Many thanks

We look forward to meeting you.

Ps the pool committee have applied for a stall on the carnival field to continue to raise money and the campaign profile, if you have any tins or disused gifts, toys or books that we can add to the stall, to raffle off as gifts (buy a straw type stall) Margret Thomas, Lee Owen and Cllr Vernon Hicks are collecting, If you have any time on the carnival day then why not pop to the stall even if its only for ten minutes to chat about progress over the last few months. Your support would be welcomed.

Whilst on my rounds delivering and talking to lots of people i noticed that the county council are still preparing the site i took these photos today

And whilst i continued printing literature and letters on my own after doing some with Vernon he has also been very busy sorting out gifts and sticking raffles on prizes for the Hendy Pool stall next week,  I called this morning with him and his dinning room table was totally covered with toys, books and tins that has kindly been donated by locals of the village for the carnival stall
