The local pool challenge shield

At the end of each pool season, two of the local pubs, the Red Lion Hendy and the Farmers Arms Pontarddulais, play each other for an annual challenge shield, Last year it was all down to the final ball and the Farmers Arms, were very lucky to win the shield, when Vince Lewis the team captain beat Tony Polverino the Red Lion landlord with a lucky Black ball. With the shield having being borrowed for a year, the Red Lion visited the Farmers arms, hoping to return the shield to its rightful owners. Man of the match was 16 year old Andrew Polverino who won his game and the shield for the Red Lion halfway through the match. With the shield now belonging to the Red Lion for the forthcoming year, the final game and repeat clash of Vince Lewis Farmers Arms against Tony Polverino Red Lion would not be the all important decider. However for the second year running Vince salvaged some pride for the Farmers Arms by beating Tony for the second year running.

Footpaths in Hendy

Eighteen months ago local residents raised concerns about footpaths in Hendy with local councillors. As a result of requests from the community council, and the local MP Nia Griffith, the local enforcement officers have applied for a diversion of the Registered Public Footpath 34/43, Which travels from Bronallt Road to Sawell Terrace Hendy, this path had been obstructed by a building and the enforcement officers have stated the new diversion should be completed by September.

Amman Valleys Community network

Last week members of the pool committee attended a grant seminar that was being held by Amman Valley’s Enterprise with officers from Carmarthen County Council. The officers identified a grant that the pool committee could apply for to help towards the costs of the feasibility study. The finance sub committee have discussed, as there was a very short closing date for the application to be returned, the application for the grant, has now been submitted on behalf of the pool committee. The next pool committee meeting will be taking place on Tuesday 10th July in Arlan Gwili to review the tenders received from consultants willing to conduct the feasibility and business plan for the pool and parks committee.
