Welcome to my online diary, enjoy your stay!
In November 2005 whilst home recovering from an operation I decided to try and design a web page for White Springs Fisheries in Pontarddulais I added an info page on the fishery website page, but as I got more and more involved in community projects, I decided to start this blog in order to keep my community activities and involvement seperate to the fishing. You can email me with comments at slloydjanes@aol.com
Info about me

I have been a member of USDAW since 1989 and I am the Llanelli Usdaw Union Branch Secretary, I have done a lot of campaigning with Usdaw and I often appear in the quarterly magazine that gets published and sent to Usdaw Members, here's just one example
I have also been Hendy community councillor on Llanedi Community Council since 2004 and as a councillor, I also represent the council as a member of the Hendy School Govenoring Body.

well as colin noted in the comment to my 5th july post
it looked like i had given up the ghost and taken a vacation, but far from it
firstly i had to work some extra ten hour shifts, because i had swapped two shifts off work to attend the carnival last weekend and had a short week last week but paid for it this weekend
i've already made sure this won't happen again, i've booked next years carnival off work in preperation, i pleaded and begged my manager nicely and he agreed,
anyway monday day just gone, i was in bed as i had been working night shift sunday night and there were ten missed calls on my mobile and three 1571 messages on my land line when i got up, one of them was the western mail reporter, and calfyn the chair had made a few and Nia Griffith the MP office staff had also been on because the Western mail had spoken to Nia that day and the reporter had also spoken to calfyn.
So i returned the call to the western mail at 4pm and it had already been written and finished and he stated it would be in tuesdays western mail http://icwales.icnetwork.co.uk/0100news/0200wales/tm_method=full%26objectid=19430949%26siteid=50082-name_page.html
the actual printed version is supported by a piece from janet smith author of liquid assets, which has a history of lido's some lost for ever some still campaigning like hendy, 171 were built in the 1930's and only 31 remain today two of which are in wales. Incidently the electronic web version is a shorter edited version of what was actually printed?
Any way i managed to read the western mail about 5.30am Tuesday morning, one of the staff opening the papers brought it up the shop floor for me to glance at.
On arriving home i had a lot of preperation to do for Tuesday night, i had to make sure people were going to turn up and make sure i had copies of minutes, agenda's and emails etc, so i spent two hours printing copies of every thing, i used about 200 sheets of paper, by 9.30am i was ready for bed
but sleep was going to be short lived today, my phone started early so i turned them off, by 12pm i was up and about i was curious about who was ringing and today there were 21 missed calls on my phones, from 9.30am till 12pm
first person i spoke to was calfyn who was very busy in work, he said the bbc tv were desperate to get hold of some one to film the hendy pool today, whilst talking to him i had three incoming calls from three different people which i rejected
it turned out the radio stations were also hot on our trails
i popped over to vernons and we met the bbc wales today team at 1.45pm, they had film footage from tredegar lido in the 1930's and they came to Hendy to film us before going to Brynammon lido to make a documentary on the news they had seen in the western mail
here's the bbc clip which has been on the lunch time news as well
http://news.bbc.co.uk/player/nol/newsid_6290000/newsid_6292400/6292406.stm?bw=bb&mp=wm&news=1
Anyway whilst they were shooting off to brynammon to finish their filming i was off in the other direction to the bbc radio wales studios to do a live interview, i haven't been able to find the link on their web site yet, but i was live on the 4pm show and was on air about 4.20pm, there was a three way chat with myself the presenter and Janet Smith who was in the London BBC Studio.
On coming out of the studio i had heard that Nia Griffith had been interviewed by Swansea Sound and Radio Carmarthen. I got home to continue prepairing for the evenings meeting, 17 People were at the meeting and it was a rather long one because there was lots of information to divulge in the four tender quotes, normaly the meetings are done and dusted in about 50 minutes to an hour and a quarter maximum, but tonight it took almost two hours to complete.
We were also told at the meeting that S4C were coming to Hendy at 9.30am Wednesday morning today to interview the local county councilor
On leaving the arlan gwili, six of the members popped over to the rugby club for a drink, but today i wasn't drinking as i had promised to go and meet my mates in llanelli simply red, who had volunteered last year to sing to save hendy pool
http://www.simplyredtribute.com/ and through his efforts we actually raised and collected £4,900 towards the campaign when he did a show at the Red Lion Hendy.
with another llanelli tribute artist meatloaf http://www.meatloaftribute.net/
we reported last year in the press just after the event that we had raised £25 short of £5,200, however the actual figure we recieved was just over £4,900, this is because a local farmer promised a pig which we auctioned off in two halfs and the pig never arrived so a refund was given,
also a friend of the tribute artists who works in Television Productions, had been offered tickets to go and see Ant and Dec live in their studios filming Saturday night live, but the tickets had be allocated to some one else and never arrived,
I'M GOING OFF TOPIC HERE SO BACK TO THIS WEEKS EVENTS
I arrived with my mates from work and the tribute acts, about 10pm towards the end of the pool match and our team were winning, (one of the opposition team actually works on the same shifts as me in tescos and he was taking the piss because Mogs played first for our team, Mogs also works on the same shifts, and had lost. Anyway Mogs, wasn't there as he had played before leaving to go to work
) So there will be some banter in work as Mogs is the reigning Llanelli Town singles champion. One of team members, asked me to pop his boy home to his mothers for him, which i did because i suddenly realised i hadn't eaten anything since midnight in work the night before and after twenty two hours of not a nibble i was famished. So i popped his boy home and popped to get a Kentucky in Station road.
On returning the visiting side had left and the poker school was starting, so i paid my dues in and started playing, and about the third hand in, i had a jack and a queen and there was a jack queen king showing i went all in and was matched, holding two pairs i was in the lead until the final river card turned up it was ten giving my oppent a straight run, who incidently had gone all in on a pair of aces
anyway i got home gone 1 o'clock and today i slept in till 10am, but have been busy carrying on the work from the pool committee last night, i've phoned the company that the committee would like to meet to discuss their tender who have agreed to come and meet the committee, i've phoned the web designer who is going to proffessionally produce a web page for Hendy Pool and the both sides community news letter,
I've also been in touch with the new treasurer and arranged to meet with the bank, to set up new signatories, and now that the annual accounts for the pool have been returned and signed as audited, i've been working on a further grant application towards the cost of the feasibility study,
The funder required these, so until the accounts were returned the application couldn't be submited
So i've had a really
week but hey Colin i'm now chilled
