Hendy news

Hendy pool committee

Seventeen members of the committee met last week, with an important item on the agenda, they had to choose a consultant to conduct a feasibility and business study for the pool and parks committee, four companies had responded with a tender quote and eventually after briefing through their references of community projects that the companies had worked with,  the committee short listed two and after a final vote the committee  decided to interview one of these companies, the company has been contacted and will now be coming to the next meeting to discuss their tender quote in a little more detail, if the committee are happy with this presentation they will then be appointing the company to start the work..

Hendy Junior School

I’ve received a quarterly report of activities that the school has been involved in. They have competed in the Llanelli schools indoor football competition and also in the MacDonald’s competition. The school has also had matches against St Michaels and Burry Port. Two of the pupils Max Easey and Joshua Batcup have continued to play for the Llanelli Schools Rugby Team, whilst Max has been selected to play for the Dyfed Team and Joshua has been playing for East Carmarthen. And three other pupils Heifin Jones, Rhodri Rees and Alex Williams have been selected to attend a seven week trial for the Llanelli School boy’s under11 team.

The school was participating in the carnival sports event, the beach rugby festival and the Llanelli Schools Athletic Championship, the figures for those attending dragon sports club has continued rising and during a recent meeting it was agreed that the school attempts to gain accreditation for the standard of the sport within the school. The cricket team competed in the Kwik Cricket competition in Llangennech. The Azzi Memorial fund kindly donated money in order to purchase a cross country team kit, on July 9th the school also entered the swimming gala held in Llanelli and finally in Eisteddfod yr Hendy Jessica Flack, Chloe Davies and Sian Grosvenor won the collage competition.

Pontarddulais Walking Club

Members would like to thank Mr Brian Lloyd for leading the walk to the Caerfannell Valley in the Brecon Beacons. Due to the prevailing and inclement weather on the day, only the loyal and intrepid turned up in attendance. The fine weather walkers were as usual conspicuous by their absence. Also a big thank you to Mr Denis Sheehan for leading the walk to the Preseli Hills in Pembrokshire. Highlight of the trek was a visit to Carnmenyn, scene of the Blue Stones of Stonehenge. The journey that took the stones from Carnmenyn to Stonehenge remains a mystery to this day. At the end of the trek the group of trekkers endured a torrential downpour of monsoon proportions that thoroughly drenched the group.
