Welcome to my online diary, enjoy your stay!
In November 2005 whilst home recovering from an operation I decided to try and design a web page for White Springs Fisheries in Pontarddulais I added an info page on the fishery website page, but as I got more and more involved in community projects, I decided to start this blog in order to keep my community activities and involvement seperate to the fishing. You can email me with comments at slloydjanes@aol.com
Info about me
I am involved in the Llanelli CAB
I am the current secretary of the Hendy Pool and Parks Committee
I am also a member of the Pontarddulais and Hendy District Carnival Committee. Which will be celebrating its 40th year this year.
I have been a member of USDAW since 1989 and I am the Llanelli Usdaw Union Branch Secretary, I have done a lot of campaigning with Usdaw and I often appear in the quarterly magazine that gets published and sent to Usdaw Members, here's just one example
I have also been Hendy community councillor on Llanedi Community Council since 2004 and as a councillor, I also represent the council as a member of the Hendy School Govenoring Body.
The contents of this site is written and published by Stephen Lloyd-Janes of Iscoed Road Hendy who will be a Labour and Co-op candidate for the local County Council elections on May 1st 2008
I was in work last night and Hendy was on the news bulletins most of the night, there was an executive board member of the county council stating that
the county council was going to consider passing a policy of three strikes and you are out policy
meaning once the park equipment is vandalised three times it will be removed, the boys in work said they had read it in the paper before coming into work, there wasn't any left on sale and i hadn't read the paper, my girlfriend hadn't bought yesterdays evening post
(i had bought her, her daily paper the daily mirror on the way home from work, she could have returned the compliment and bought the post)
Anyway Ross in work promised to keep the copy he had in the house and i found it on line, it was obvious that the radio had interviewed a spokesperson for the county after reading the paper article,
Hendy Pool and Park has had its fair share of vandalism and lets hope the new equipment installed does not get targeted by these yobs or the village will suffer again, locals need to keep a high vigilance and phone the police if they witness an act of crime
'THREE AND OUT' POLICY CONSIDERED
ANTHONY O'CONNELL ANTHONY.OCONNELL@SWWMEDIA.CO.UK 09:00 - 14 July 2007
Carmarthenshire's parks could be shut for good if vandals continue to damage them.Carmarthenshire Council is considering a "three strikes and out" policy in a bid to reduce its annual £100,000 repair bill. Under the scheme, parks where changing rooms, pavilions and other play equipment are damaged more than three times will be shut for good. Facilities in Burry Port, Hendy and Tumble are among those under threat if the proposal - which will be discussed by councillors on Monday - is accepted. Councillors will also consider pre-paid coin box metering of electricity supplies at the authority's non-manned sporting facilities. Executive board member for leisure services Clive Scourfield said: "It is unfair the whole of the county should be burdened with repair costs for persistent and repeated vandalism or even negligent use of amenities in certain areas. "Damages are averaging £100,000 a year and it is money that deserves to be spent in areas where it is appreciated. "Burry Port Memorial Park and harbour amenities have suffered from repeated high cost attacks in the past. There is a limit to the depth of the purse funding repairs. "I appreciate it is a small minority in any community who cause the problems," he added. "Now they may have to bear the responsibility for the loss of amenities in their own community and the wrath of those who might condemn our actions." The councillor said sporting clubs and organisations had to be seen to be acting more responsibly by avoiding unnecessary costly wastages while using council-owned facilities. This was why pre-paid metering for electricity was being considered. Council head of leisure services Ian Jones said: "The three strikes and out policy is aimed at trying to reduce vandalism and improve ownership of local facilities. "If approved, it will be taken forward on a multi-agency basis in consultation with local clubs, the county and community councils and the Carmarthenshire Community Safety Partnership, of which the police are members." Anyone who sees anything suspicious or anyone causing damage to council property is asked to contact the police on 0845 3302000.
