Hendy news

tommorow we are meeting Nia Griffith MP in Hendy with county officials and representatives from the first cymru bus stops

i had an email earlier today about the proposed hendy pool feasibilty study, the person had visited a small outdoor lido with a polycarb dome, which is similar to the cardiff stadium the roof can retract making the lido an open or enclosed pool

travelling home from bristol yesterday i heard on the news about face book, so i checked it out and joined up and within half an hour, i had several friends i've met and know from my past,

today one of my work mates phoned me to pick my brains on how to work their pay out with premiums etc, they are about to change their work shift patterns, because they were successfull in the recent team leader position, that tescos had offered in our store, but they will now have a shift pattern of early starts 8.30pm or late starts 11pm, which means their premium payments will alter depending on their shift patterns, after chatting for 45 minutes on the phone talking about lots of work gossip,

i checked out the web site for the miss wales earth competion, because the final is being held tommorrow and Hendy Pool committee member, Kylie Hearne is through to the final, i found information on the live voting results

info is looking good for her and i'm sure everyone in Hendy who know her wish her well

and finally here's my weekly Hendy news column

The Annual Memorial Cricket Match

On 5th August, the annual memorial match in memory of Daniel Price will be played at Hendy Cricket Club, all the proceeds of the day will go to the Mental Health Ward at Llanelli. The Hendy Squad will be playing against an all stars celebrity side and the day will be finished off with a barbeque starting at 2.30, entrance to the field is £2, this event over the years has become a family day out please support.

Pontarddulais Walking Club

Unfortunately the club had to abort last weeks intended trek to Cefncoed-y-Cymmer.The members had to postpone the trek owing to a torrential cloudburst of monsoon proportion on arrival in Merthyr. The walk leader Mr Kevin Anderson has announced that the walk will now be held later in the season. Club members would like to wish Kevin Anderson all the very best in future because he has recently retired from work, after many years of teaching Physics at Bishop Gore school in Swansea. The club's anniversary dinner will be held in Clwb Rugby Pontarddulais in September.

Hendy Pool Committee

The committee after shortlisting the consultants that tendered for the feasibility study, met with the company from Cardiff called Hyder Consulting UK limited, they came to Hendy to view the Lido and to meet the committee to explain details of their tender. At the meeting they gave an insight into the length of time scales that they anticipate to complete this feasibilty study and also expanded on some of the other projects they have worked on, which included, The Jubilee Lido in Penzance, this lido was also built and opened three years after Hendy in 1935, to mark the Silver Jubilee of King George V, hence its name the Jubilee Lido. Restoration work has been achieved on the Jubilee after Hyder conducted a similar study to what Hendy has asked them to do. The next stage of the process is Hyder must meet with the parks department of Carmarthen County Council and the Executive Board Member for regeneration, to gain their approval, once this interview is conducted the company can then start the process to conduct the feasibility study for Hendy Park and Pool. After the consultants left the meeting there was a discussion around vandalism in Hendy in general, the committee instructed the secretary to write to the county council, to enquire about the future and their proposals around the recently closed Llwyngwern Old Peoples Home which has suffered from vandalism. Miss Kylie Hearne the treasurer of Hendy Pool is about to start her second year in university and felt it would be difficult to hold the position of treasurer, whilst away from the village studying, a new election for a treasurer was held and Councillor Vernon Hicks was unaminously elected as the new Treasurer. The next pool committee meeting is currently being arranged with members of the county council to enable the county officers to meet the consultants and members of the committee, a suitable date has yet to be confirmed

Carmarthenshire Assocation of Volunteer Services

Earlier in the year CAVS awarded the Hendy pool committee a grant of £1,920 to develop and improve the news letter printed by the sub committee of the pool and to establish a web site, the web designer has actually started working on a web site and work should be completed soon. Details about CAVS can be found on their web site  www.cavs.org.uk
