Pact Meeting

 

Pontarddulais saw a public meeting with approximately 250 residents in attendance held last week. Approximately thirty of the residents came from Hendy and the Fforestt area, it was agreed with the Police, to hold a second PACT meeting to be held Thursday 23rd in Pontarddulais, so that feed back from last weeks issues raised can be given. The police will discuss what action plans, that the partnership have agreed to implement to address the anti sociable behaviour, the police and county councils of Swansea and Carmarthen can only address the situations if incidents are reported, because if anti sociable behaviour and vandalism are not reported they won’t be aware of issues and therefore can't investigate. 

 

Welsh lessons starting in September

 

The university of Wales is starting welsh classes in September, there will be twelve locations throughout Carmarthen where courses will be run, each venue will hold classes two evenings a week, Hendy school will be holding a course, which will task thirty weeks to complete, the emphasis will be on conversational Welsh and this course will give the ideal momentum for learning a new language, the lessons are held during school term times. Annual Hog Roast

 

The annual Pig Roast and entertainment will be held in a marquee in the Pontarddulais show ground on Friday 24th August at 7.30pm, Tickets will cost £7.50 with all the proceeds in aid of the Leukaemia Fund Wales, the special guest and compere for the evening will be Swansea Sounds Kevin Jones, there will be a licensed bar available, the event is being organised by Gorseinons Barclays bank manager Kevin Logg, for further details and tickets ring 01792 882334 or 883580

Keep Fit

 

Wanted to keep fit with some fun and learn self defence at the same time then why not visit the Shiru Karate Club in the Institute St Teilo Street Pontarddulais, the club conducts professional tuition with qualified insured instructors of traditional Wado Ryu Karate class times are Tuesday Evenings 5.30pm till 7.00pm and Saturdays 10am 12pm

 

Pontarddulais Walking club

 

Members of Pontarddulais Walking Club would like to thank walk leader Mr Terry Evans for last weeks trek to Brecon. The trek included a visit to the Priory Church of St John the Evangelist which gained cathedral status in 1923. The club was once again blessed with glorious sunshine and lunch was taken on the banks of the River Usk. Members also visited the Celtic Silurian Hillfort of Pen- y- Crug, were splendid vistas of the Brecknock Beacons were witnessed. Whilst walking the streets of Brecon the group were caught up with the ambience of the Brecon Jazz Festival and its attractions. New members are always welcomed the club meets in the car park near the library on Sunday mornings.

 

Hendy Pool

 

County Council representatives have now met the consultants Hyder, who are conducting a feasibility study for the pool and parks committee and the work for the feasibility and business plan study has started.
