Well done Nick was nice to see you again.

Whitesprings Wednesday Opens

Wednesday 12th September 2007

Whitesprings Match Lake

Weather : Sunny with no wind. 21 deg.

Report :

I returned to the mid week opens today after a two week lay off due to ill health. With my absense the numbers have diminished with only 6 taking part today, but it was nice to be out in the sun and fishing again. Gordon drew peg 9 which I won off on this lake recently, so no pressure then. Geoff drew peg 13 which is always good for a few. Terry drew hot peg 18, Keith on form peg 21 and Mathew on peg 19 with myself on peg 11. Vince had a chuckle stating i'd never win off that peg. Well I love a challenge and set about and attacked this peg. From the very start it was obvious today was going to be hard with everyone struggling for bites. I persisted with fishing and feeding shallow and continously altering the depth, size of pellet and colour to keep in contact with the fish, which was far from easy. I was picking up the odd fish as was Keith with everyone else suffering worse, although Geoff was sneaking the odd fish in from peg 13 on the pellet waggler.

From halfway through it appeared the battle for first place was between myself and Keith and at this point Keith was catching faster. I took the bull by the horns fed even heavier and managed to string a few more fish out than Keith by the all out winning off peg 11 with 70lb 8oz to Keiths 53lb 6oz with Geoff Walker coming in a good 3rd with 45lb 7oz.

Results :

After i left the fishery i had about two hours to myself to print off some minutes and agendas and emails i recieved ready for our monthly labour branch meeting, this month Nia Griffith was coming to the branch to update the members on future activies that are being planned.

We also checked out our news letter and survey

There were a few minor errors and small typos but the news letter should be ready today to deliver?

Hendy, Llanedi, Fforest postcode survey

Some residents have expressed the wish to see Hendy change its postcode from SA4. To date the Royal Mail has said it would only ever consider changing the last two characters of a postcode, and only then in exceptional circumstances. That would NOT resolve the SA4 issue. Before embarking on any campaign to get the Royal Mail to change its stance, it is important to know the views of the majority – YOUR VIEWS.

Some arguments in favour of changing the postcode

  • having a postcode which is distinctive to Carmarthenshire, rather than SA4 which is shared with part of the City and County of Swansea
  • concerns that the SA4 postcode allegedly pushes up insurance premiums

Some arguments against changing the postcode

  • Inconvenience and expense of notifying your change of address, headed paper etc and potential for mistakes and confusion. Companies will take a long time to update their databases causing problems for residents and postal services.
  • Claims by insurance companies that they do not just lump all SA4 addresses together, but consider each village and each street separately.

We decided to conduct a survey as this debate has been a long standing issue with views for and against, hopefully we will collate enough evidence to make a decision on the next step
