fond memories of Hendy Pool

Last year the pool committee had put an appeal in my column of the local Star for old photos and a MR Fox living in Llanelli kindly rung me after reading my column and provided us with a 1930's evening post cutting of a photo

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Mr Fox didn't have any text, so it was a trip down to, first the Llanelli Library and then after little success the Swansea Library, to trawl through all of their micro filmed archives for Hendy Pool and after some 8 hours of reading all the old news articles there was some rewarding success....

I found an article about a similar beauty contest, where Miss West Wales was crowned, which I thought I would share with you,

the pool committee are working on a new web page and the photo and story will be added to this new web page coming soon......

This article was in 1932 when the pool held an event towards the end of the August holidays this beauty show became an annual event

The official opening of the pool was in the spring of 1933 and the photo above was at the similar annual event in 1936,

If you have any eldery relatives in their late 80's or 90's who would have been at the event or even entered in the under 14's swimming contest, who might have memories of these beauty events and swimming gala, these please contact us, we would love to hear their fond memories.
