Prince Phillips Hospital

Labour continues to deliver

I recieved an email from alun davies the regional assembly member about developments in Llanelli's prince phillips hospital

UPDATE ON PLANS FOR NEW SERVICES TO BOOST LOCAL HOSPITAL

The go-ahead for new services at Prince Philip Hospital underscore the Labour led Assembly Government’s commitment to localised health services, according to local Labour AM, Alun Davies.

Health Minister, Edwina Hart has approved the business case to enhance breast care services and increase short stay surgical services at the town’s hospital.

Alun Davies said: “This is a most welcome announcement by the Minister and shows that despite the scaremongering of a year ago, demonstrates our commitment to galvanising health services now and in the future.

“The go ahead to look at ways of enhancing existing services and developing an endoscopy unit will give the people of Llanelli the confidence that the hospital has an important role to play in how health services operate in south Carmarthenshire.”

The new Hywel Dda NHS Trust will be charged with working up further plans to build extra examination and consulting rooms in a one-stop clinic, along with two dedicated mammography rooms, two treatment rooms and an extension to the surgical wards.

Alun Davies continues: “A new endoscopy unit and development of a short stay unit will allow more patients to undergo surgery at the hospital. Increasing the numbers of treatments available is important, as it allows the Trust to recruit staff and surgery can be conducted on a more routine basis.”

Minister Edwina Hart said: “I am committed to improving surgical services at Prince Phillip Hospital. The development of the new short-stay surgical unit and endoscopy suite will help the Trust maintain the Assembly Government’s target of no patient waiting more than 26 weeks from primary care referral to treatment, including waiting for any diagnostic test, by the end of 2009. This will help improve the health and ultimately quality of life of patients.”
