Local surgeries

Due to the fact that the last Saturday of the month will be carnival day and Councillor Steve Lloyd is on the Carnival Committee and will be busy on the field on the morning with the committee organising the event, he will therefore not be holding his regular monthly surgery that he holds on the last Saturday of the month, I will be on the carnival field all day and i look forward to meeting you all there.

Pontarddulais walking club

Pontarddulais and Hendy residents who are members of the club meet on Sunday mornings in the car park opposite the Pontarddulais Library to venture on treks around South Wales, new members are always welcomed, photos from previous treks which show some breath taking scenery can be found on their web site http://www.pontarddulaiswalkingclub.com/ The club is also organising a Dorset Trip in September and members are reminded that Mr Dennis Sheehan is now taking names for the trek.

There has now been a change in training times for the new junior football club, the season starts in September but the junior squad has already started training and are looking for more juniors and adults to help with the coaching, they meet every Wednesday between 5.30 and 6.30pm and on Saturday morning unless they have organised a friendly pre season match, between 10.30am and 12am. All training takes place on the Hendy Football pitch on Harleyford Road, The juniors are looking for young boys or girls between the ages of 8 and 12's, further details about the junior squads and training and how to get involved can be obtained by ringing Mark on 01792 881694

Llanedi Community Council

Llanedi Community Council have sponsored the carnival by providing live entertainment on Carnival Day, There will be a live group called The Bear Bones Folk Band playing outside the Rugby Club in Hendy, unless raining, if wet they will be playing inside the club.

Hendy Senior Citizens

Chairman Roy Evans welcomed everyone to the last meeting including Mrs Margret Bowen who had been absent through illness, The minutes of the previous meeting held in the Urdd Hall, were read out by Rheidol Williams, Everyone discussed the success of the meal held in the Bridge Inn in Llangennech and it was decided to hold a return visit in a few weeks dates to be arranged, there was some correspondence from Carmarthen County Council relating to some officers and speakers who would like to give some speeches and presentations to the group. The guest speaker to this meeting had cancelled at very short notice so Rheidol took the realms and gave a speech on some local history and some stories from the old dairies and how some of the local residents who were wealthy would travel to London, there were also discussions about some local public houses in the area which have long since vanished, including one in wernbwll and that two of the cottages in the same area were once stables before being converted into cottages by a wealth business man to make homes for his two daughters, this interesting story was very lively and several older members helped Rheidol by adding their own relocation's with some of the facts and memories of the area. Following an excellent debate and speech, refreshments were served and raffle prizes were won by Hanna, Gladys, Rheidol, Edwina and Myfanwy, the next meeting will be taking place on Wednesday 24th June, the club meet every fortnight and new members would be welcomed
