Hendy Senior

Mr Roy Evans chaired the meeting held at the Urdd Hall Hendy and welcomed all members to the meeting, Secretary Mr Rheidol Williams read the minutes of the last meeting and then informed members under matters arising that the Christmas dinner had been booked at the Mountain Gate, Tycroes for 9th December. Mr Preece asked that member consider that the reverend John Walters be asked to become the branch Padre, the Secretary Rheidol seconded this motion and asked that John and his wife be invited as guests to the dinner, it was agreed unanimously, with no guest speaker for the day, Mr Preece interviewed Miss Launa Mathias the eldest member in the room, to encourage her to share some history. She was born in 1914 and gave the members an interesting and often humorous insight into her long live, she left school at 14 and she paid a fee to a dress maker to learn an aprentership, eventually after learning dressmaking skills she became a nurse, then she was conscripted during the wartime to work in an ammunition factory in bridgend, after gaining factory skills she eventually finished her working career in the ICI Factory at Waunarllywd. Her humour in her experiences in life produced infectious laughter. Roy Evans gave a vote of thanks followed by the regular raffle which was won by Mary W. Rheidol, Glenys, Afanwy, Nanna and Elna, The next meeting will be held on the 22nd July 2009 everyone is welcomed to and join them for entertaining afternoon

Surgeries

Councillor Steve Lloyd-janes will be holding his regular monthly surgery at Arlan Gwili the last Saturday of the month between 9am and 10am.

Community Council

There was a special meeting on Heol y Parc by the old Griffiths Pallets site to discuss the revised drawings and plans for traffic calming measures along this stretch of road, over the last ten years there has been many accidents and near misses, including nine garden walls being knocked down, the county council in partnership with the community council have agreed to place traffic calming measures in on this road.

Hendy Park

Many people have been asking about the park and the funds that the community has raised, There was a week long public consultation in April where the plans to regenerate the park were on display in the rugby club, at the end of the consultation there was an annual general public meeting in the Urdd Hall were members of the public met the pool committee and the grants officers who designed the master plan. The plan was designed from feedback from the Feasiblity Study in which 105 individual members of the community gave feedback at the exhibition. At the AGM the annual audited Pool Accounts were declared and it was agreed at the meeting that the community council should receive these funds and that they are ring fenced for Hendy Park. The grant Officers have identified nine grant sources that the community council and the pool committee could qualify for, Huw Jones the surveyor for the council and myself have been meeting the grants department to complete applications on behalf of the community council, two of these grant funds have closing dates in August of this year and they both have a twelve week time scale to advice applicants if they are successful or not, if we are successful in one or both of theses grants work should start commencing this financial year.
