Pontarddulais walking club
The clubs annual Christmas Dinner will be held this year at Pontarddulais Rugby Club and the organisers are Glenda Lewis and Jacqui Price. Dennis Sheehan has confirmed the Clubs visit to Dorset which will consist of two treks of the counties finest sights. For details of arrangements for the Dorset Trip in September members are reminded to contact Mr Dennis Sheehan who is taking names for the trek.Hendy's Geraint Price will also be the walk leader on the Martyn Williams Pen Y Fan Cancer Charity Challenge Walk in the Brecon Beacons. This trek will take place on September 20th, and many Welsh Rugby Union internationals will be in attendance. The trek is organised by Velindre Cancer Centre. Geraint would like this opportunity to thank and appreciate all who have already generously sponsored him to participate in this event and if you haven't its not to late to sponsor him or any of the club members that are participating on this trek. The club members meet every Sunday morning for various walks and treks and new members are always welcomed, photos and stories from various previous treks can be found and read on the web site

Friends of the School
After a period of no fund raising organising there is now a new committee called friends of the school, they were officially formed at the beginning of June and have already had three fund raising events in the summer term, selling strawberries and cream at the schools sport's day, sweets and drinks at the inter schools carnival football event and a summer disco held at the Hendy school. They have raised over £300 in that short space of time and look forward to a full year of fund raising ahead with a varied and exciting programme of events that the school and the committee will be participating in. Junior Football
There has now been a change in training times for the new junior football club, the season starts in September but the junior squad has already started training and are looking for more juniors and adults to help with the coaching, they meet every Wednesday between 5.30 and 6.30pm and on Saturday morning unless they have organised a friendly pre season match, between 10.30am and 12am. All training takes place on the Hendy Football pitch on Harleyford Road, The juniors are looking for young boys or girls between the ages of 8 and 12's, further details about the junior squads and training and how to get involved can be obtained by ringing Mark on 01792 881694
Hendy Senior Citizens
The chairman Roy Evans opened the meeting in the Urdd Hall by welcoming a brand new member to the group namely Muriel Peters, The Lords Prayer was spoken and then the minutes of the last meeting read out by Rheidol Williams, Menus of the newley re-opened Bird In Hand were distributed and the group decided a meal would be arranged for a later date in the year, It was decided to send a letter to the Rev. John Walters about becoming the branch Padre, he had sent his apologies but arrived later in the afternoon It was decided to invite Mr Brian Jones to a future meeting as a speaker to discuss Police Security. Whilst waiting for the Rev. John Walters to arrive, Mr Viv Preece who had spent 42 years working in County Hall, Carmarthen gave a history of the building talking about the old jail and the old buildings around the perimeter. After his arrival, John Walters then continued as the guest speaker keeping with Viv's theme of history with an insight into life from many years ago and highlighting some of his family's history, he emphasised the importance of reminding our children and grand children about our past in order to keep family history alive. Roy Evans then gave the vote of thanks for a very interesting, informative and humorous afternoon. The raffle was won by Rheidol, Vivian, Muriel, Roy and Elna, Refreshments were served by the ladies and Rheidol the next meeting will be in the Urdd Hall in Hendy September 2nd.
